Mountain West Ballet was organized in 1983, and it is a community based non-profit organization that preserves advances and shares the beauty of ballet by providing opportunities for aspiring dancers in a professional, nurturing atmosphere, and by offering the community an affordable, quality production for entertainment and educational purposes.
Mountain West Ballet presents two productions annually, utilizing the Sandy Amphitheater and Mount Jordan Middle School as venues. Mountain west Ballet holes open auditions for all parts using a panel of judges who utilize a points-based scoring system. Auditions are widely publicized throughout Salt Lake valley through press releases, mailings, posters and flyers in public and private schools and universities. To provide opportunities for dancers, the aim is to use every dancer who auditions, which often results in double or triple casting. Dancers from through Salt Lake vally representing approximately 26 dance schools, colleges, and universities participate annually with Mountain West Ballet.
